LUCAS OIL SLICK MIST 60 AT MERRITTVILLE CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON
Thorold, Ontario (July 14) – The Lucas Oil Slick Mist Family of Car Care products are set to assist Merrittville Speedway’s Reunion Committee in welcoming back many old friends Saturday July 16th when the Thorold track celebrates it’s 60th Anniversary Season.
Once again hosted by Merrittville Speedway’s Reunion Committee headed by Chairmen Rick Kavanagh, the night salutes 60 years of dirt racing excitement at one of Canada’s oldest race tracks in addition to the 21st Inductions into the L. St. Amand Enterprises Wall of Fame.
“Lucas Slick Mist out performs the competition,” acknowledges (Merrittville Speedway GM) Erica Bicknell-Jones, adding, “with the Jerry Winger Memorial set for 60 laps … the winner will surely have shine as well.”
In the 60th Anniversary Season, the Bobcat of Hamilton 358 Modifieds will be featured in the Jerry Winger Memorial Lucas Oil Slick Mist 60 Main Event along with regular events for Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series Divisions – the Hoosier Stocks, J&S Heating and Air Conditioning Modified Lites Original Pizza Logs Sportsman and the Turn 4 Collision 4 Cylinders plus Vintage Cars.
“As we race towards the 60th” anticipates Committee Chairman Rick Kavanagh, “we look forward to meeting with our former drivers and alumni … to catch up and reminisce and take a look back at how the race cars were like back in the day … we couldn’t do it without them and our partners … Lucas Oil … CAA Niagara … Auto FX and Big Red Market.”
The Reunion Committee is also made up of former drivers – Jeno Begolo, Ted Renshaw and Terry Huffman as well as Mark Swartz and the Speedway’s Erica Bicknell and Jim Irvine. Kavanagh is the son of former Speedway owner Ken Kavanagh who is also a Wall of Fame Member.
The Reunion Committee has made their selections for the 2011 Wall of Fame and like since the start – each year’s honorees do not find out until Reunion night.
A huge part of the night is all the reminiscing that takes place in celebration of the track’s now 60 consecutive seasons. The Drivers of the past enjoy meeting with the fans of today – many that can remember the early days of the sport. Just as drivers today can be second or third generation, so too are some fans.
Vintage Race Cars will join the cars of today in a pre-race Car Show in the Parking Lot beginning at 3 prior to going on display in the grandstand leading up to race time at 7 PM.
