Whitteker Posts 6th Place Finish at Autodrome Granby; Cornwall Speedway Falls to Rain

August 10, 2011 (Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design) — Luke Whitteker is in his sophomore season in the 358 Modified division, and like many second year drivers, he has had some rough stretches, and faced some adversity along the way, but in the last several weeks, the team’s luck has been turning around, and they have posted some strong runs. Luke and the Whitteker Motorsports team were ready for another weekend of racing, with the usual stops at Autodrome Granby and Cornwall Motor Speedway on Friday night and Sunday night respectively.

Luke has posted some great results at Autodrome Granby since using his how Whitteker Motorsports car back in July, and he hoped to continue to build some momentum as the season enters the final full month of the season. First up was qualifying heat races, and Whitteker started from the sixth position and moved up to fifth. In the 30 lap main event, Whitteker started from outside of the seventh row in the 14th position, and steadily moved his way through the field. By lap 12 he was up to eighth place, and continued to move up as the race hit the halfway point. With ten laps to go, Luke was now running seventh, and made the pass to take over sixth place with just three laps remaining to secure his third consecutive top ten finish at the Granby.

“We have been running pretty good here as of late”, says Whitteker. “Hopefully we can get up there and battle for the win before the year is over”.
On Sunday night at Cornwall Speedway, Whitteker was looking forward to another good night at the track, looking to build on there recent consistency. A beautiful warm summer day gave way to clouds and showers in the early evening, and Cornwall Speedway officials were forced to cancel the night’s racing program.
“We never like to get rained out at the track, but with the car being race ready, it has made for a rather relaxing week at the shop”, says Whitteker. “I am looking forward to getting back at it this weekend”.

This coming weekend, Luke Whitteker will be back at Granby on Friday night and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday. The 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series will resume on Sunday, September 4th at Cornwall Speedway. From there, the series will go to Autodrome Drummond on September 9th, Mohawk International Raceway on September 16th, and then to the 40th annual Super DIRT Week events, beginning Wednesday, October 5th at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, October 6th at Rolling Wheels Raceway and Saturday, October 8th at the New York State Fairgrounds. The Series will conclude on Saturday, October 15th at the Brockville Ontario Speedway.

Whitteker Motorsports have recently had t-shirts and can cozies made, and they can be purchased at the team trailer at the track. The t-shirts are $25 and the cozies are just $3. The proceeds of the merchandise sales are being donated to the CHEO Foundation in Ottawa for sick kids, and to date, Whitteker has donated $850 to the organization.
