January 25, 2012 (Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design) — After running most of the 2011 racing season at Orange County Fair Speedway, and other special events along the way with the Ray and Debbie Tuit owned 673 Big Block Modified team, Gary Tomkins has announced that he will be back with the team in a “specials only” role for the upcoming year.
Tomkins is looking to put together his own team, and race more locally to his Clifton Springs, New York home. Tomkins ranks sixth on the all-time Modified win list at his home track Canandaigua Motorsports Park with 45 feature wins and is looking to return to the track in 2012.
“It has been a couple years since we last ran Canandaigua Motorsports Park on a weekly basis. That track is home for me, and that is where I got my start in racing, and we have had a lot of success their over the years”, says Tomkins. “We are trying to put together our own deal this year, and we do have some sponsorship in place, but we are looking for more sponsors to add to our program”.
With sponsorship in place, Tomkins would also like to add another weekly track into his program for the coming year, as well as follow the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series.
To discuss sponsorship options and how his race team can benefit your company, please send Gary an email at gtomkins@rochester.rr.com. He would be more then happy to work with you on a sponsorship package that is tailored to meet your needs.
Tomkins will run special events for the Tuit team in 2012, including the first race of the year at Selinsgrove Speedway on March 17th as part of the RoC Ice Breaker Weekend. Last year during this same race, Tomkins made his debut at Selinsgrove, and brake issues halted a sure top five finish. The team will return once again, hoping for a little better luck. The bad luck seemed to be the story of the season for Tomkins in 2011, as several good runs came to an early end on many nights.
“We have a great team with Ray and Debbie Tuit, and I am happy that we are going to continue with them this year. We do not have our schedule laid out as of yet, but we will be running several special events throughout the year”.
Tomkins has won at all levels of the sport, including the 2004 Mr. DIRTcar Modified Champion. He has 17 Super DIRTcar Series victories, and has won 45 Big Block Modified feature events at Canandaigua Speedway, 12 wins at Cayuga County Speedway, 7 wins at Rolling Wheels Raceway, plus multiple wins in the Sportsman division at each track.
