Feb. 1 show next for IMCA Modified Challenge Series at Canyon

PEORIA, Ariz. – With three different winners through the first three events, the Winter Challenge Series resumes with a rare midweek show this Wednesday evening at Canyon Speedway Park.

Nebraska traveler and former IMCA Modified series champion Dylan Smith leads Iowans Chris Abelson and Phil Penney by two points and by four markers, respectively, heading into the next $1,000 to win contest on Feb. 1.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. at Peoria. Racing.starts at 7 p.m.

Smith, Abelson and Californian Larry Hood paced features during the Jan. 27-29 tripleheader. Defending series champion and Canyon regular Tim Ward is fifth in the point race.

The final series dates at Canyon are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4. Wrapping up the tour are Friday and Saturday, Feb., 10-11 Winter Nationals programs at Cocopah, just outside Yuma in Somerton. The opening night feature pays $750 to win while the top prize is $3,000 on night two.

All six races at Canyon and the Saturday feature at Cocopah are qualifying events for the 2012 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

Forty-one IMCA Modified drivers from 10 states – California, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Oregon, as well as Arizona – and the Canadian province of Alberta competed during the series opening weekend at Canyon.
