Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park Releases Revised 2012 Schedule; Exciting Events on Tap This Season
March 24, 2012 (Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design) — It is full speed ahead at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park for the 2012 racing season, and the track is very excited to release their revised schedule for the coming season in wake of everything that has transpired over the last couple weeks. Several marquee events are on tap this season including a pair of big money mid week events in May and June, and the return of the Monster Trucks in July.
With open practice scheduled at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in just three weeks, and the season opener one week later on April 21st, we are excited to present our schedule for the season. The first major event takes place on April 28th with the first of two visits by the Empire Super Sprints.
May is highlighted by the first SUNY Canton Shootout night on Wednesday, May 23rd, with a 45 lap Modified feature on tap paying $3000 to win, and will offer the top 358 Modified finisher a $500 bonus. The Sportsman division will also be on the card with a 30 lap, $1000 to win event, and the Late Models will have a 25 lap feature paying $750 to win. All divisions will have an open tire rule for this night. All 3 winners on this night will receive qualifying spots for the Outlaw 200 weekend at Fulton Speedway in September. A similar show will be on the schedule for Wednesday, June 20th, with an identical show, with the exception of the Late Models having a Go Nuclear Late Model Challenge Series Event. The Modified winner will also receive a qualifying spot for the SUNY Canton Hurricane 100 paying $10,000 to win at Brewerton Speedway on Thursday October 4th.
The Monster Trucks will get July started with a bang, as the track hosts Night of Fire and Destruction on Thursday, July 5th featuring five popular Monster Trucks and thrill show. The night will also feature a Cheney Tire 30 lap Enduro race paying $1000 to win. The Empire Super Sprints return to Can Am just two days later for the annual Budweiser Shootout Weekend.
The final night of track points for the Modifieds, Sportsman and Late Models will be Saturday, September 1st, with a champion being crowned. The following two weeks will feature 30 lap Sportsman features, with an open tire rule. During these final two events, the Sportsman winner will receive $1250 to win.
There are five Cheney Tire Enduro events scheduled throughout the season, including the popular King of the North Country Championship Enduro Day on Sunday, July 29th featuring 3 30 lap Enduro races paying $750 to win each. The Cheney Tire Enduro events are also scheduled for April 28th, June 16th, July 5th, and September 8th. Another Cheney Tire Enduro will open the 2013 season with the annual Hangover Enduro on Saturday, January 5th.
The Modified, 358 Modified and Sportsman teams will utilize the current rules as well as fuel of local sanctioning. Any 358 Modified can weight 2,300 lbs against the Big Blocks. VP will remain the official fuel. Hoosier Tires only except for Open Tire rule races.
The SUNY Canton, Dig Safely NY Modified division will be made up of both Big Block Modifieds and 358 Modifieds and they will battle for $1500 to win on regular race nights. The Big Blocks and 358 Modifieds will have their own separate point standings, and a Big Block Modified and 358 Modified champion will be crowned at the end of the 2012 season and be rewarded at the end of year banquet. In addition, the first 358 Modified across the line will receive a $100 bonus each week courtesy of Waite Toyota Scion, with the second 358 Modified across the line receiving a $50 bonus from our friends at SUBWAY. All competitors in the SUNY Canton, Dig Safely NY Modified division will be eligible for the Best Appearing Car and Crew Award at the end of the season based on perfect attendance at the track in all points paying events in 2012. It will be a great season for our SUNY Canton, Dig Safely NY, Clarence Henry Coach Sportsman division in 2012, as they will be racing for an increased purse with no less then $600 to win on regular race nights, with some $700 to win nights and a few $1000 to win events along the way. The two open tire Sportsman events on September 8th and September 15th will pay $1250 to win. In addition to the added purse, several local sponsors have come on board with some unique incentives. Thomas Trash Service is offering a $50 weekly back to back challenge for any competitor that can win back to back features. That $50 will roll over to the following week every time there is not a back to back winner, increasing the award each week until someone claims it. North Country Custom is also offering a random $100 bonus each regular race night for anyone finishing in position 2 through 24. All competitors in the SUNY Canton, Dig Safely NY, Clarence Henry Coach Sportsman division will be eligible for the Best Appearing Car and Crew Award at the end of the season based on perfect attendance at the track in all points paying events in 2012. The winner of the Award will receive a free website for one year at a value of $700 courtesy of Finish Line Web Design.
The Dig Safely NY, SUNY Canton, Junction Boyz Inc. Late Models have changed to Fastrak sanctioning this year, with the top three finishers in track points receiving a $500, $300 and $200 bonus courtesy of Fastrak. The champion will also receive $500 from Can Am to make a $1000 champions share at the end of season banquet. The Fastrak Late Models will also race for an increased purse in 2012 with $500 going to the winner on all regular race nights. Several local sponsors have also stepped in to offer some great incentives, including a $25 bonus to the halfway leader each week on all regular race nights courtesy of the Bear World Store of Watertown. Just like all of our contingency awards, competitors must run the required sponsor decals on their car in order to be eligible. If the halfway leader does not have the decal on the car, the $25 award will carry over to the following week, raising the bonus until a racer that does carry the decal claims it. All competitors in the SUNY Canton, Dig Safely NY, Junction Boyz Inc. Late Model division will be eligible for the Best Appearing Car and Crew Award at the end of the season based on perfect attendance at the track in all points paying events in 2012. The winner of the Award will receive a free website for one year at a value of $700 courtesy of Finish Line Web Design. In addition, a $500 bonus courtesy of CRC Race Cars will be handed out to a competitor in the top ten in points at the end of the season at the annual awards banquet at the end of the season. A random draw will determine the winner. In order to qualify for this award a minimum of 75% attendance is required.
The Dig Safely NY, SUNY Canton Pro Street Division formally known as the Street Stock Division will be allowing the Pro Stocks to compete with the Street stocks this season. The Pro Street division will be eligible for a $50 back to back bonus courtesy of Watertown Auto Sales/Drive America. To win the bonus a driver must win back to back features. If no one wins back to back features the money goes up $50 a week until someone wins back to back features. Also, the Pro Street Division will have a $25 bonus for the half way leader on all regular race nights courtesy of Massey’s Furniture Barn. If there is no Massey’s Furniture Barn sticker on the car the money goes up $25 a week until someone wins the money. The Pro Street Division Champion will also be eligible for a $250 Parts Certificate to be used at CRC Race Cars and they will also be giving out two Goodyear racing tires at the mid point of the season to someone in the division. There will be a random draw amongst the top 10 in points.
The Dig Safely NY, SUNY Canton Thunder Car Division will also have a $25 Bonus for the half Way leader of each feature race on regular race nights courtesy of the Bear World Store of Watertown. If there is no Bear World Store decal on car the money rolls over to the following week until someone claims it that does have the decal.
DIG Safely NY and SUNY Canton College will also sponsor the Mod Lites and the Pro Stocks in 2012. The Mod Lites will have 5 STARS Mod Lite Series races paying $300 to win each event with an increased purse.
All Military Members with valid ID will be admitted free to the Grandstand area throughout the 2012 season courtesy of Junction Boyz Inc, and everyone 16 and under will also have free admission to all $10 race nights on the schedule courtesy SUNY Canton. All Saturday events will commence at 6:30 with pit gates opening at 4pm and the grandstands at 5pm.
