Sterrett takes Bloomington checkers

Bloomington, IN (August 10, 2012) – On the track Friday night, UMP Modifieds, marking the return of Bloomington native and former Modifieds regular, Kent Robinson, now racing in the World of Outlaws Late Model series along with nationally ranked Modifieds driver Devin Gilpin of Columbus. The field was set with Robinson in fifth and Gilpen in the tenth position, but pole-sitter Bradley Sterrett of Bloomington, fourth place starter Chad Combs of Bloomington and series points leader John DeMoss of Bloomington were not about to give up any track for either one of the visiting drivers. Sterrett pulled away from the pack early as the ensuing battle for second, third and fourth heated up. It wasn’t until the leaders got into lapped traffic that Gilpin, looking for his thirtieth win of the season was able to make up any significant ground. Rolling the top, Gilpen demonstrated why he had twenty-nine previous wins this season as he masterfully put himself into contention but ran out of laps before any chance of compromising Sterrett’s pole to checkereds night. Finishing behind Sterrett and Gilpin was Combs in third with Wes Leigh and John DeMoss rounding out the top five.

The racing continues at Bloomington Speedway next Friday night, August 17th with Sprints, UMP Modifieds, UMP Super Stocks and Hornets.

Bloomington Speedway has been a short track racing venue in the same location in Bloomington, Indiana since 1923.
