BREWERTON, NY – MAY 17,2013 (By Dave Medler) – What a night at the Brewerton Speedway in the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds. There was a first-lap crash that took out some top competitors and late in the race the top-two runners, Ryan Bartlett and Pat Ward made contact on the final lap. It ended with Robbie Bellinger passing Matt Sheppard on that final lap for his second career Brewerton win. Other winners on Eagle Beverage/Bud Light Night were, Kevan Cook, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Joe Isabell, Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites and Chuck Powelczyk, Four Cylinder Stocks. Ryan Bartlett outgunned Jim Witko and the rest of the field to lead the opening lap of the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature just before a wild melee broke out. It appeared something happened to the Chuck Bower car as slowed dramatically just crossing the start/finish line stacking up the field collecting Bower, Dale Planck, Ryan Phelps, Billy Decker and Matt Hulsizer who went over. All drivers were okay, but the same couldn’t be said for their equipment that suffered extensive damage and couldn’t continue. With 10 laps complete, Bartlett still set the pace out front. Witko ran second but had Pat Ward all over him looking for a way by with Rob Bellinger and Dan Vauter showing in the top-five. At the halfway mark, Bartlett was having his best run of the season as he was still setting a quick pace at the front of the field. Witko, Ward and Bellinger were still in a tight battle for second, third and fourth with Vauter still showing in the top-five. With 20 laps showing on the scoring tower, Bartlett was on rails as he opened a full straightaway lead, as he looked to runaway and hide. Pat Ward now ran second with Witko, Bellinger and Vauter still in the hunt. With 10 to go Bartlett still led, but now timing and scoring showed Ward slowly reeling in Bartlett, cutting into his big lead. Bellinger, Witko and now Matt Sheppard who started deep in the pack worked his way into the top-five. When starter Dave Farney gave the five to go sign, Ward drew within one car length of Bartlett setting up a shootout to the finish with Bellinger, Sheppard and Witko still in contention. After working on Bartlett trying to find a way by, Ward was able to inch ahead exiting turn four coming down for the white flag. Going into turn one side by side Bartlett’s car slid into Ward taking both up the track and out of the groove. This allowed Sheppard and Bellinger to shoot by. Just when it looked like Sheppard was going to pick up the win, Bellinger had other ideas as he drove it in hard in three and four and was able to outrun Sheppard to be the first under the checkers in the exciting finish. After doing the victory lane roof dance and celebrating with his crew, Bellinger...

After doing the victory lane roof dance and celebrating with his crew, Bellinger talked about how he put his Thompson Road Tavern/Black River Vending Services/JR U-Store/ Westward Painting/ No.8R in victory lane.

“We were pretty good all race, and for that to happen,” Bellinger talking about the contact between leaders Pat Ward and Ryan Bartlett, “They just opened the door and we were there to capitalize.”

“I saw them touch in turn one and both slid right to the top. I knew Matt (Sheppard) had been underneath me in three and four a couple times. We came down the backstretch coming down for the win. I had to pinch him a little and then we were alright.” finished up Bellinger about the pass to get by Sheppard for his second career Brewerton win.

Bellinger also celebrated in victory lane with Fulton Speedway SUNY Canton Sportsman driver Beth Schneider who said yes to his marriage proposal just days earlier.

It looked like Kevan Cook was going to romp to an easy win in the Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds after taking the lead on lap 4. Late cautions put Chris Fleming on Cook’s back bumper. Over the final laps Fleming could get door to door with Cook, Cook was to strong as he picked up the win. Jason Amidon, Jim Walsh and Dane Keller Jr. finished third through fifth.

Just over a week ago Joe Isabell took delivery of a new chassis and had one run on the car last Saturday at the Fulton Speedway. It didn’t take long to work the kinks out as he dominated the 20 lap Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lite feature. Tim Devendorf came from deep in the field to finish second followed by Justin Williams, Doug Williams and Nick Graziano.

This coming Friday, May 24th, Tracey Road Equipment, the title sponsor of the Big Block Modifieds presents a night of fast, affordable, family, fun entertainment.
BREWERTON, NY – MAY 9, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – Racing and pets just seem to go together, it doesn’t matter if you’re a fan, driver, team owner, promoter or track owner. Just look around a race track, on peoples’ Facebook pages and chances are you will see peoples’ pets. They are more than just pets to us, they are family members. Not all animals are so lucky as they are abandoned, given up for financial reasons and other very sad stories. That’s why organizations like the Humane Association of CNY located in Liverpool, NY, play such a vital role in giving shelter, food and medical care but it comes with a cost. There are no big government grants to keep these places going, it’s through fundraisers and the generosity of people like you. The Brewerton and Fulton Speedways have seen the need and are proud to team with the Humane Association of CNY with two special nights. Brewerton Speedway will host the first night on Friday, May 17 with the Fulton Speedway hosting on Saturday June, 1st. On the designated nights not only can you meet some of our fury friends prior to the night’s racing, you can help in a variety of ways. They will be accepting monetary donations, gently used clean towels, blankets and comforters. There will also be a bin where you can give donations of canned cat and dog food. They suggest Friskies for cats and Pedigree for dogs as they try to stick to one brand as not to upset the animals’ stomachs. There will also be gift baskets for raffle with racing themes inside, gift certificates from local restaurants and even pet themed gift baskets for raffle. When it comes to a time of need there is no bigger family than the racing family. Let’s get behind our four-legged friends and help give them a chance at a better and happy future.

Please visit http://thehumaneassociationofcny.org/ or call (315) 457-8762 to donate if you can’t make it to the speedway or even to adopt a pet to make your home their happy home.

BREWERTON, NY – MAY 3, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – Jimmy Phelps out of Baldwinsville, NY turned around opening night disappointment after ignition problems sidelined the defending track champion. On Friday night, Phelps grabbed the lead at the start of the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature and dominated the entire way, serving notice he won’t be easy to dethrone as champion. Other winners on Ehrlich The Pest Control Experts night were, Chris Fleming, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Tim Devendorf, Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites and Zak Petrie, Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Matt Hulsizer and Jimmy Phelps brought the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified field down to the green with Phelps blasting into the early lead at the start of the 35 lap main. With 5 laps in the books, Phelps opened a few car length lead over Hulsizer and Chad Phelps, while Alan Johnson and Chris Hile battled in the top-five just before a yellow for Dan Vauter. Vauter made a quick trip to the pits and returned. On lap 10, Phelps was still in command opening a ten car length advantage, as Tom Sears Jr., Hulsizer, Larry Wight and Johnson used up every inch of the speedway fighting for second through fifth. With 15 laps showing on the lap counter, Phelps looked to be getting quicker by running the bottom in turns one and two, and the top in three and four. Sears, Hulsizer and Wight were still in a tight fight with Willy Decker closing quick in fifth. On lap 20, Phelps was still on cruise control as he started putting cars down a lap, building up almost a five-second lead. Behind Phelps, Sears, Hulsizer, Wight and Decker were still fighting for top-five spots like it was the last lap of the race. Over the remaining laps with no yellows to tighten the field up, Phelps put on a clinic cruising under the checkers first by well over a straightaway. Tom Sears Jr., Willy Decker, Larry Wight and Matt Hulsizer finished second through fifth. Jimmy Phelps talked about his win after parking his J&B Installations/Industrial Tire Of CNY/ No.99J/Troyer in victory lane. “We were good tonight, but towards the end I got a little nervous, it started to free-up, I think the track started to go away. We were coming into traffic and was glad we had a little lead and was able to back off and keep our nose out of trouble.” We had a good race car last week but ran into some ignition problems.” “Next week is going to be a little bit tougher (Handicapping) tonight we had a great starting position due to last week’s problems.
Like Fleming in the IMCA Modifieds, Tim Devendorf made it two-for-two in the 20 lap Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lite feature. Devendorf started 13th and only took 8 laps to grab the lead by running the top of the speedway. Once out in the lead nobody had anything for Devendorf the rest of the way.
BREWERTON, NY – MAY 1, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – If the 2013 season opener was any indication, the 800 horse-power Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds are in for another exciting year on the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon.” On the race card this Friday, May 3rd, presented by Ehrlich The Pest Control Experts, will be the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites and Four Cylinder Super Stocks. 2012 Track Champions will be crowned on the front straightaway. Last Friday night’s season opener saw Chuck Bower, Billy Decker and Matt Sheppard put on a battle royal with Decker grabbing the exciting, narrow win over Sheppard at the checkers. In the Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Chris Fleming served notice he’s going to be a force in 2013 as he dominated the 20 lap feature. With drivers like Kevan Cook, JJ Courcy, Jason Amidon and others it won’t be easy for anyone to dominate. Tim Devendorf once again used his rim-riding, exciting style to pick up the victory in the Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites. This will be another exciting season for the class as all the teams bring very sharp and professionally maintained equipment. Chuck Powelczyk behind the wheel of his VW that has 16 seasons on the track, picked up a pair of wins in the Four Cylinder Super Stocks by winning the 2012 Outlaw 200 Weekend Four Cylinder Open and the Four Cylinder Super Stock main.
BREWERTON, NY – APRIL 26, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – Friday night the Brewerton Speedway kicked off the new season with a bang in the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds. In the 35 lap feature Billy Decker grabbed the lead from Chuck Bower on lap 22, and then had to hold off a furious late charge in traffic from Matt Sheppard to pick up the narrow victory on Ferris Industries night. Other winners on opening night were, Chris Fleming, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Tim Devendorf, Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites. Chuck Powelczyk grabbed a pair of wins in the 2012 holdover Outlaw 200 Weekend Four Cylinder Open and the Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Ryan Bartlett and Chuck Bower brought down the 800 HP Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified field down to Dave Farney’s green flag with Bower snagging the early lead in the 35 lap main. With 5 laps complete, Bower held a four-car advantage over Billy Decker, Matt Sheppard and Dale Planck, who will be a Friday night regular in the Rood Racing No.77x. By lap 10, Bower opened a half a straightaway lead as Decker, Sheppard and Planck were in a tight battle with Ryan Phelps running a few car lengths back in fifth. On lap 15, Bower caught the back of the field, and that allowed Decker and Sheppard to rapidly close in with Planck and Phelps still showing in the top-five. With Farney showing the halfway sign, you could of thrown a blanket over Bower, Decker and Sheppard as the trio was in midseason form exciting everyone in attendance. With Decker running the top of the speedway most of the race and Bower the bottom, Decker was able to drive around Bower on lap 22 to be scored the new leader. With 10 laps to go Decker was still turning quick laps as Bower and Sheppard tried to keep pace as Planck and Phelps still showed in the top-five. On lap 26, Sheppard moved into the runner-up spot as he took off after Decker as this race was far from over. Over the last 5 laps Decker and Sheppard put on a battle royal as they battled in and out of lapped traffic, but in the end Decker was a touch quicker as he was the first under the checkers for the exciting win. Bower, Planck and Ryan Phelps rounded out the top-five. In victory lane with a tire going rapidly soft, Decker exited his Gypsum Wholesalers, Stadium International Trucks, Integra Racing Shocks, NAPA Auto Parts, Bicknell, No.91 to talk about his win. “It feels good to be here let me tell you, it was another hard fought win here at the Brewerton Speedway. I’m not sure I had the best car, but had the preferred line the last 5-6 laps, I think we got away with one tonight. “He was strong ( Chuck Bower) Dale(Planck) and Matt (Sheppard) were going to be right there.
“He was strong ( Chuck Bower) Dale(Planck) and Matt (Sheppard) were going to be right there. My car was a little tight early. I got balanced really good and then it started going away towards the end. It was very typical, things change a lot here at Brewerton. You have to move around. I thought Matt was going to roll us on the top, then I got him cleared and went to the top and was able to get around Chuck, it’s flat-out exciting racing here.”

Decker finished up talking about the all-out last lap fight with Sheppard. “I thought Katelyn (Kane) and the other car were going low, so I picked the top-line and hoped for the best. Everyone held their line and I kind of used that car as a pick knowing there wasn’t room for five-six wide, so it worked out.”

Decker related what super shape the track was in for the first race of the season with multiple lanes of racing and smooth. Hats off to Eric Fink and his track-prep.

Chris Fleming started out the 2013 season the same way he ended 2012, in victory lane in the Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds. Fleming took the lead on the opening lap and was never headed after that. Kevan Cook, Dane Keller Jr., Todd Stone and Jim Walsh finished second through the fifth.

Tim Devendorf racked up another win in the Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites rim riding his way to the checkers. Gary Jeffries, Mike Mullen, Jeff Isabell Jr. and Kyle Demo chased Devendorf across the line.

This coming Friday, May 3rd, Ehrlich The Pest Control Experts presents another exciting night of high speed dirt action. On the race card will be the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites and the Four Cylinder Super Stocks. 2012 Track Champions will also be crowned.

BREWERTON, NY – APRIL 15, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – Since the lights were turned off and the engines went silent after the 2012 “Hurricane 100″ in October, fans and race teams waited through the long offseason getting ready for 2013. The silence will come to end this Friday, April 19th as Ehrlich Pest Control presents the opening night at the Brewerton Speedway, one of the most exciting and highly competitive tracks in the Northeast. On the race card Friday night will be the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites , Four Cylinder Super Stocks, plus the holdover 2012 Outlaw Four Cylinder Open feature. Jimmy Phelps will be back to defend his Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified championship with a new look for his J&B Installations, Andy Phelps Racing, No.99J, Troyer. With ten different feature winners last season and a field that has names weekly like Billy Decker, Matt Sheppard, Ryan Phelps, Larry Wight, Alan Johnson, Pat Ward, Chuck Bower, Peter Britten, Rich Scagliotta, Rob Bellinger, Chad Phelps, Matt Fink and others, it’s easy to see why the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon” has one of the toughest field of cars anywhere in the Northeast. In 2012 in the Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds the points battle came down to the final night that saw Canadian Ryan Scott edge out Kevan Cook by one-point. Look for a great season as a lot of drivers have stepped up their game for the new season to challenge Scott and Cook for the title. Nine different drivers found victory lane last season in the Anchor Bar & Grill Mod Lites where Mike Mullen grabbed his first popular track championship. This high speed class has around 30 solid cars on a weekly basis. Zak Petrie won the 2012 track championship in the Four-Cylinder Super Stocks but Chuck Powelczyk led the way in grabbing checkered flags with ten victories. This class always puts on exciting feature events that most nights go caution free. The Brewerton Speedway would like to welcome back Ehrlich Pest Control who keeps the Brewerton and Fulton Speedways pest free. Ehrlich offers fast, responsive service. Their effective, customized pest control solutions include Fumigation, Bed Bug Control, and Termite Control – all provided by local offices throughout the east coast from Connecticut to Florida. Call them today by visiting www.jcehrlich.com or call 1-800-837-5520 for the nearest location to your business or residence. As always, remember to support those who support racing. Gates will open this Friday at 5:30 with the first green flag of the new season to wave at 7:30. General admission will be $12 with everyone 18 yrs old and younger admitted free to the grandstand. Pit admission will be $25 for members/$30 non-members. Any questions you might have about the new season please contact Cory Reed at (315) 668-6906 or cory@brewertonspeedway.com .
BREWERTON, NY – MARCH 7, 2013 (By Dave Medler) – Thanks to Dennis Beaudette and Industrial Tire of CNY, the SUNY Canton Sportsman will compete for the richest sportsman purse ever at the Fulton Speedway . In celebration of his 10th year in business, Beaudette is adding $10,000 in sportsman purses and awards to the already lucrative October 4th and 5th Outlaw 200 Weekend Sportsman Shootout. Through his support, the Shootout will pay $2,500 to win, $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third in addition to top-three heat bonuses. To be eligible for added purse, drivers must have attempted to qualify at least once at both Brewerton and Fulton during the 2013 season, and drivers will have plenty of opportunities to do so. The Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Shootout qualifying series will include the four summer Sportsman shows at Brewerton Speedway and the July 17th Sportsman event on the same card as the All-Star 410 Sprint Car Series at Fulton Speedway. That event promises to be extra-huge, as both Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart will be competing in their sprint cars that night. Not only will each qualifying event pay $1,000 to win, but,the race winner (or next in line) will automatically be in the redraw for the Industrial Tire Outlaw 50, joining the heat winners, and will start no worse than 12th in the 50-lap grind. A sixth and final guaranteed redraw spot will be awarded to the highest point earner in the five Industrial Tire Sportsman Shootout qualifying events. In addition to the added purse money, the Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Shootout will now be a part of both days of the October 4 and 5 Outlaw Weekend. Teams will be put through a pre-event inspection on Friday afternoon and evening, with 10-lap qualifying events to be held on Friday. Twelve-lap Last Chance Qualifying events will be held on Saturday, to complete the 30 car starting field for the 50-lap Shootout that will be held just prior to the lucrative Outlaw 200.
BALDWINSVILLE, NY (February 4, 2013) – Race fans put this one on your 2013 racing calendar. Brewerton Speedway is pleased to announce the ‘Red, White and Brew’ Independence Day Holiday Weekend Special slated for July 3, 4 and 5 at the D-Shaped Dirt Demon. With a mix of Holiday Fireworks and hard core dirt racing at one of New York’s most competitive tracks, this weekend will be a great way to celebrate America’s birthday. The holiday weekend starts with a bang on Wednesday, July 3 with one of the largest fireworks displays in Central New York. This free-to-the-public display is set-off at dusk just south of the track on the Oneida River. Fans are welcomed to park at the speedway and take the short walk to the optimum viewing locations near the river. Speedway sponsors, the Waterfront Tavern and the Anchor Bar and Grill, are both waterfront locations that will provide comfortable and optimum viewing. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as thousands of spectators pack the Brewerton area for the display. It is only fitting that Sprint Cars, known as ‘America’s Race Car’, highlight the first race night of the Red, White and Brew weekend. The Lucas Oil ESS Sprints will make their first of two 2013 stops at Brewerton on Thursday, July 4. The event will be the second of a four-leg New York Sprint Week for the ESS stars, with a great field of the winged warriors expected to be in action. Joining the always exciting ESS will be the popular SUNY Canton Sportsman. Fields of 44 and 53 were pit-side at the two Brewerton Sportsman events in 2012. Sportsman teams from all over New York have asked for more dates at Brewerton, and July 4th will be one of their four visits this year. Arguably the most competitive class anywhere in the Northeast, Brewerton’s Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds will headline the Friday night portion of the Holiday Weekend. IMCA Modifieds, the always exciting Mod Lites and 4-Cylinder Super Stocks complete Friday’s four-star show. A second fireworks show completes the racing action on Friday night. The Holiday Weekend continues on Saturday night at Brewerton’s sister track, Fulton Speedway. Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman, NAPA Late Models, E & V Energy Novice Sportsman and Parts Plus Four-Cylinders will be in action along with a fantastic fireworks display. Additional Red, White and Brew event information will be released as it becomes available. Keep up with Fulton and Brewerton Speedway track updates as the season approaches at www.brewertonspeedway.com and www.fultonspeedway.com; on Facebook at www.facebook.com/brewertonspeedway and www.facebook.com/fultonspeedway; and on Twitter at www.twitter.com/Fultonspeedway and www.twitter.com/brewertonSpdway.

In the hotly contested 100 lap feature that saw the top-five run in a tight pack for most of the race, it came down to a two-car race late between Stewart Friesen and Billy Decker. Decker moved into second on lap 66 and dogged Friesen for a number of laps on his back bumper before moving to the top of the speedway driving by Friesen on lap 84. Friesen could stay with the Decker but could never find enough speed to mount a serious challenge as Decker was to strong beating Friesen at the checkers by 1.187 second at the checkers. Matt DeLorenzo and Pat Ward led the thirty-Car starting field down to starter Dave Farney’s green flag with DeLorenzo grabbing the early lead in the 100 lap SUNY Canton Hurricane 100 presented by Ferris Mowers. After three early cautions, DeLorenzo opened a half a straightaway lead by lap 15, while behind him Ward, Chris Hile, Stewart Friesen and Larry Wight were in a tight battle for second through fifth. At the quarter way mark, lap 25, DeLorenzo and Ward ran within a couple lengths of each other as they started putting cars a lap down.
By lap 80, Friesen was feeling the pressure from Decker, but was able to get away putting a lapped car between himself and Decker as the laps started clicking off towards the finish.

After a quick caution for a slowing Alan Johnson, Decker saw the bottom going away for Friesen and moved to the top of the speedway looking for the speed to get by Friesen. On lap 84 Decker was able to drive by Friesen for the final pass of the race. The rest of the way Friesen was able to stay within a couple car lengths of Decker, but Decker was just too quick as he was under the checkers. Ryan Godown, Jimmy Phelps and Matt DeLorenzo rounded out the top-five. Ryan Phelps, Larry Wight, Billy Pauch Sr., Mike Mahaney and Matt Fink rounded out the top-ten.

“I’ll tell ya, what a race. I started tenth and there was so much slicing and dicing in front of us. One thing about it is, Brewerton just provides for such great racing,” said Decker after parking his Gypsum Wholesalers/Stadium International Trucks/LJL Kevlar Race Engines/Integra Racing Shocks/No.91 in victory lane.

“I was going good early then struggled for awhile. We got going halfway decent racing Stew (Friesen). The line Stew was racing in I think got a little wore out. Really, I had nothing to lose,” going to the top for the pass for the win. “I just happened to find that line and got fortunate enough to have the experience here at Brewerton knowing that line was there, and it worked for us.”

“We have our big-guns here, our A-Team helping us for Syracuse and helping us for here, it sure feels good.”

Tim Devendorf was the show in the 20 lap Beaver River Distribution Mod Lite feature. Devendorf led the whole way out running Jeff Sykes in the green-white-checker finish. Joe Garafolo, Matt Magner and Justin Williams rounded out the top-five. Frank Sobotka, Sterling Miller, Doug Williams, Mike Mullen and Gary Jeffries completed the top-ten.

Mike Mullen was crowned the Brewerton and Fulton Speedways Mod Lite Champion. For Mullen it was his first ever Championship in the division.

September 4, 2012 (Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design) — This past weekend was the final points weekend at all weekly tracks for Alan Johnson and his Commercial Roofing team. With events at Brewerton Speedway of Friday, Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday and Utica Rome Sunday, Johnson was hoping for a solid finish to the regular season and build some momentum going into the big races coming up. The weekend started at Brewerton Speedway and Alan started the night off well posting the fastest speed in opening practice and then a second place finish in his qualifying heat race after starting from the rear of the field. In the 35 lap main event, he started from deep in the field, and was able to move up slowly to finish seventh. “The car was pretty good towards the end of the race, but we just ran out of time”, says Johnson after the race. “It has been a bit of a struggle here at times this season, but our team has worked hard week in and week out”. Johnson’s weekend continued at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night. It was a 40 lap night with double points on the line to conclude the 2012 regular season. After a third place finish in his qualifying heat race, Johnson started the main event from ninth. With ten laps into the race, he was up to sixth place and continued to move forward. With 27 laps in the books, he had made it up to third place and was chasing the leaders, but an untimely caution in the closing laps set up a three lap dash to the finish, and Johnson was unable to find the grip on the bottom lane, and slid back to finish fifth. Johnson was at Utica Rome on Sunday night, and knew right away that he should have brought the Small Block, as the dry slick track conditions played havoc with the powerful Big Block machine. He started and finished the race in 10th place. This coming week, Johnson will be at Utica Rome all weekend for the annual New Yorker 200 Weekend. They will have a 50 lap, $5000 to win race for the Modifieds on Friday night, and a 100 lap $10000 to win event on Saturday. Alan Johnson and the Commercial Roofing team does have associate sponsor opportunities available for Super DIRT Week, and combined packages for the 2013 season. On the night there were first time winners and first time champions crowned on NAPA Season Championship/ Syracuse Crunch Night. In the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature, Matt Hulsizer took the lead on a lap 9 restart and was never headed the rest of the way. Chris Hile and Ryan Bartlett brought the field down to the green with Hile snagging the early lead in the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature. With 5 laps complete, Hile opened up a ten car length advantage as he was being chased by Bartlett, Matt Hulsizer , Rich Scagliotta and Dan Vauter. A yellow would fly on lap 8 erasing the lead Hile had built-up. On the restart Hulsizer used the cushion to blast by Hile to be scored the leader on lap 9. With 10 laps showing on the scoring tower, Hulsizer held a slight advantage over Hile. Behind the top-two, Chuck Bower, Scagliotta and Vauter were in a tight battle for top-five spots. By lap 15, Hulsizer was still running the cushion to perfection as he opened a half a straightaway lead over Bower, Hile, Scagliotta, Vauter and Tim Sears Jr.. On lap 20, Hulsizer was on rails still on the top, as Bower and Sacgliotta were looking for ways to cut into the lead. Hile and Vauter still fought for position in the top-five.

The win was anything but easy for Hulsizer in his first full year in modified racing, as he had to hold of constant pressure late in the going from Rich Scagliottta and Chuck Bower for his first ever Brewerton Speedway win.

Other winners on the final points night were, Chris Fleming, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Jeff Isabell Jr., Beaver River Distribution Mod Lites and Stephen Denton Anchor Bar & Grill Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Larry Wight took the top spot in the first ever NAPA Modified Winners Classic for all the feature winners from 2012 season.

With 10 laps to go, Hulsizer could see the back of the field as Bower started cutting into the lead. Just behind the top-two it was still Scagliotta, Hile and Vauter.

With 5 laps to go, Bower and Scagliotta caught Hulsizer setting up a three-way battle for the win. Over the remaining laps first Bower threw everything he had at Hulsizer. Then with 2 laps to go Scagliotta running the bottom gave it his all trying to get by Hulsizer. Hulsizer didn’t flinch as he was the first under the checkers for his first ever Brewerton Speedway win. Scagliotta, Bower, Hile and Vauter finished second through fifth. Chad Phelps, Alan Johnson, Billy Decker, Jimmy Phelps and Pat Ward rounded out the top-ten.

After exiting his Thompson Road Tavern/Muddy Paws Dog Grooming/Chittenango/ No.55/Troyer, Hulsizer talked about his win in his first full season in the Big Block Modifieds.

“This is awesome. We’ve been struggling here all year, we’ve been strong but had some bad stuff happen. It’s a great way to end the season here.

“This is awesome,” said Hulsizer who also picked up a win at the Fulton Speedway earlier in the season. “This is one of the toughest race tracks to race at, with the best competition. My starting spot obviously helped.”

Hulsizer then talked about the pass for the lead on a restart and how he held everyone off. ” I thought Chris (Hile) was going to go outside on the restart, when he didn’t I was licking my chops. It had a lot of bite on the outside of three and four. I seen Rich (Scagliotta) under me once,” In the last 5 laps. ” Then I saw the flagger telling me I was spacing it out, so I eased off of it a bit just not to screw up. Then he told me they were catching me, so I picked it (the pace) back-up at the end.”

In the first ever NAPA Winners Classic for 2012 Modified feature winners paying $1,200 to the winner, Larry Wight picked up the big win in the 20 lap event to end the night. Wight took the lead on lap 4 from Ryan Phelps and then held off the best in the business for the popular win. Dan Vauter, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker, Ryan Phelps, Matt Sheppard, Alan Johnson, Matt Hulsizer, Robbie Bellinger and Willy Decker finished second through tenth.

John Scarborough led the opening 8 laps of the 25 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature before Kevin Ridley was able to inch by Scarborough on lap 9. One lap later Scarborough retook the lead before yellow would fly. On the restart , Scarborough came down on Ridley causing damage to Ridley’s front end ending his night. Officials put Scarborough to the rear of the field for the contact, he never rejoined the field and went pit side for the night.

When the green came back out, rookie and high school student, Ron Davis III took command of the race.

At the halfway point, Davis, Jim Spano and Tony Finch II waged a wild three-way fight for the top-three spots. Nick Guererri who started 22nd and Rocky Warner who came from 19th showed in the top-five.

With 10 laps to go Davis and Spano took off in a two-car breakaway at the front, while Guererri, Finch and Warner battled for position.

Over the remaining laps Spano could get close to Davis, till Davis started adjusting his driving style and was able to pull away unchallenged for the biggest win of his career. Spano, Guererri, Warner and Finch rounded out the top-five. Eric Giguere, Jim LaRock, Alan Fink, Matt Guererri and Rocco Leone completed the top-ten.

Not only was it the career highlight for Davis, but he also secured the pole position for the SUNY Canton Sportsman, Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman 50 on the Friday night portion of the 27th Annual Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 Weekend By SUNY Canton September 28-29 at the Fulton Speedway.

In the 20 lap Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified Feature Chris Fleming took the lead on lap 3 and went on to his second win of the year. Jason Amidon, Ryan Scott, Rob Keller, and Dan Searles finished second through fifth. Rich Keller, Dane Keller Jr., John West, Glen Erwin, and Mike Jones completed the top-ten.

The story of the IMCA race was the battle for the track championship. Coming into the event, Kevan Cook held a 8 point advantage over Ryan Scott. On a lap 10 restart Cook got involved in an incident damaging his front end, sending him pit side for the night. With Ryan Scott’s third place finish and Cook’s 12th place finish, Scott was crowned the champion by 1 point over Cook.

Jeff Isabell Jr. took the lead from Joe Isabell on lap 9 and then went on to win his fifth feature of the year in the Beaver River Distribution Mod Lites. Points leader Mike Mullen, Lowell Zehr, Alan Fink and Doug Williams rounded out the top-five. Jeremy Isabell, Rick Demo, Terry Lapham, Nick Graziano and Sam Usborne completed the top-ten.

The Brewerton Speedway will swing back in action Thursday night, October 4th. When what the fans call “The Race Of The Week” when Ferris Mowers Presents the 20th SUNY Canton 100/ $10,000 to win for Modifieds. Also on the race card will be the Mod Lites.

August 27, 2012 (Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design) — It has been a busy summer of racing for Alan Johnson and his Commercial Roofing team. The action continued this past week with another four nights of racing beginning with Utica Rome Speedway on Wednesday night for an RoC Series race, followed by the usual weekend events at Brewerton Speedway, Canandaigua Motorsports Park and Utica Rome Speedway. At Utica Rome last week for the $10000 to win RoC series race, Alan struggled early in the night through the qualifying races, but after starting 20th in the feature he was making steady progress until a flat tire just before the halfway distance sent him to the pits. He returned to the track, and fought his way back to 15th. After a week off at Brewerton last week for the Modified division, Alan returned this week looking to get back to victory lane. He stared from 18th place and had a long way to go to get to the front. Johnson methodically worked his way forward, and found himself in fifth place at the checkered flag. “The car was really good tonight, we just needed a few more laps”, says Johnson after the race. “I really have to thank the crew for working hard on this car all the time, hopefully we can get out there and pick up another win or two before the season is over”. Canandaigua Motorsports Park was next up on the schedule. After finishing second in his qualifying heat race, Johnson started the 35 lap feature from 11th place. He fought his way forward early, and after a spirited battle through most of the race, Alan climbed into the top five and went on to a fifth place finish. “The track was very slick, and the car seemed to only work well on the bottom”, says Johnson. “It was a tough battle, but we were able to bring home a top five”. Johnson was back at Utica Rome Speedway on Sunday night. He was fast right from the beginning of the night, setting fast time in the opening practice session and backed that up with a solid second place finish in his qualifying heat. In the 35 lap main event he started from the rear of the field and steadily worked his way forward. He crossed the finish line with a ninth place finish. This coming weekend is championship weekend at all weekly tracks. Alan is tied for sixth place in points at Brewerton Speedway, just 27 points back of the top five. At Canandaigua Motorsports Park, Alan is again sixth in points, 26 back of the top five, with double points up for grabs. The 2012 season at Utica Rome concludes this Sunday night as well and Alan will be looking to grab his first win of the season at the track. He is currently fourth in track points. Decker started 17th and had his Bicknell working wherever he put it on the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon” and also had great restarts working his way forward, taking the lead on lap 15 from teammate Pat Ward. Once in the lead Decker survived a late restart with 3 laps to go holding off Willy Decker and Ward for his third win of the year. For Decker, behind the wheel of his Gypsum Wholesalers/ Stadium International Trucks/Integra Race Shocks/No.91/Bicknell, it was his 50th career win at the Brewerton Speedway. Other winners on Universal Metal Works/McDonalds Family Fun Night were, Kevan Cook Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Justin Williams Beaver River Distribution Mod Lites and Chuck Powelczyk Anchor Bar & Grill Four Cylinder Super Stocks. Joe August Jr. and Ryan Bartlett paced the Modified feature down to the green with August grabbing the early advantage in the 35 lap shootout. With 5 laps complete, August held a narrow advantage over Bartlett and Ward. Going into turn one Ward and Bartlett made racing contact sending Bartlett around. Another quick yellow would fly on lap 6. Ward took advantage as he was able to blast into lead on lap 7. Ward opened up a couple car length lead on lap 10, while behind him there was an intense battle between August, Willy Decker, Matt Hulsizer and Billy Decker who came from 17th to battle with the leaders. The yellow would fly on lap 11 that saw Rich Scagliotta and Tim Sears Jr. get towed pit-side. Sears would return, but Scagliotta’s night was finished. When the green came back out, Billy Decker shot from fourth into second place as he set his sights on Ward for the top-spot. After working on Ward, Decker shot to the bottom of the speedway going under Ward exiting turn four to be scored the new leader on lap 15. With 20 laps showing on the scoring tower, Decker built-up a ten car length advantage over Ward, Willy Decker, Hulsizer and Chad Phelps. On lap 24, Chad Phelps who running 5th, slowed with a right rear flat sending him to the pits. It also erased the half a straightaway lead Decker built-up. With 10 laps to go, Decker was on cruise control out front as all eyes were focused on the tight fight for second through fifth between, Ward, Willy Decker, Hulsizer and Alan Johnson.
Decker got a great restart and was able to out distance Willy Decker and Pat Ward to the checkers. Jimmy Phelps, Larry Wight, Chuck Bower, Robbie Bellinger and Matt Sheppard completed the top-ten.

In the 20 lap Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modified feature, Rob Keller took the lead on lap 2 and looked to runaway and hide from the rest of the field. Points leader Kevan Cook was able to run Keller and taking the lead on lap 12. Once in the lead Cook outdistanced Rob Keller, Ryan Scott, Chris Fleming and Jason Amidon to the checkers.

What a night it was for 16 year old high school student and rookie Justin Williams in the 20 lap Beaver River Distribution Mod Lite feature. Williams took the lead at the drop of the green flag and led the entire distance. The story of the race was a restart with 3 laps to go that put two of the heaviest hitters in the division, point leader Mike Mullen and seven time 2012 feature winner Tim Devendorf on Williams back bumper for the shootout to the finish. Williams showed the savvy of a veteran and not a rookie as he held off Devendorf and Mullen for his first ever Brewerton Speedway win. Joe Garafolo and Lowell Zehr came home fourth and fifth.

August 20, 2012 (Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design) — The busy racing season of 2012 continued for Alan Johnson and his Commercial Roofing team this past weekend. With his regular Friday night home in Brewerton giving the Modifieds off, it was a perfect opportunity for Alan to hit the road to Ransomville, New York for the Alex Friesen Summer Nationals. After getting a 358 Modified together for the event, the team was ready to tackle the $10000 to win Ransomville Speedway event. From there, it was back to Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night, and on to Utica Rome on Sunday for Twin 20 lap Modified main events. Johnson started the feature at Ransomville from the 20th starting position and made great progress throughout the 100 lap main event. By lap 78, Johnson was up to fifth, and challenging for fourth when a caution came out to slow the field. Over the final 22 laps, he began to slide back and would cross the finish line in eighth place. “It was a great run for this new small block”, says Johnson after the race. “The tires went away late in the race, but we battling inside the top five before that after starting deep in the field”. Canandaigua Motorsports Park was up next for Johnson. After struggling in his qualifying heat, the team went to work on the car, looking to get it better for the 35 lap main event. He started the race from 20th place once again, and was up to eighth by lap 22, but a series of late race cautions slowed his momentum, and would settle for a tenth place finish. On Sunday night, Utica Rome Speedway hosted twin 20 lap features for the Modifieds. Johnson finished seventh in the first race, and was challenging for second in the second race before the checkered flag and he settled for third. This coming week, Johnson will return to Utica Rome Speedway for a special Wednesday night RoC race paying $10000 to win. He will be back in action of Friday night at Brewerton Speedway then on to Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday and conclude the week back at Utica Rome Speedway on Sunday night.
August 15, 2012 (Craig Revelle – Finish Line Web Design) — It wasn’t a great weekend for Alan Johnson and his Commercial Roofing team. It began with a rain out at Brewerton on Friday night, and the following night his race ended early with a hard lap one crash at Canandaigua Motorsports Park on Saturday night. From there, it was a disheartening 12th place finish at Utica Rome Speedway. The rain held off most of the day on Friday, but just as race teams had began to fill the pit area, the clouds started to roll in, and before long the rain had started, and track officials were soon forced to cancel the night’s events. After finishing fifth in his qualifying heat race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, Johnson returned to the pit area to make a few adjustments before the 35 lap main event in front of a near capacity crowd. Johnson’s night would only last one lap though, as a pile up on the front straightaway caused heavy damage to his car. It was a big let down for Johnson, as it took him out of the top five in points at Canandaigua. On Sunday night at Utica Rome Speedway, Alan was looking to turn his weekend around with a solid finish. He started the 35 lap feature from 12th place, and fell to 15th at the start of the race. He continued in 15th over the first 20 laps before climbing his way back up to 12th at the checkered flag. “It was a really disappointing weekend for us”, says Johnson after the race. “We had a good car for Saturday night, and got involved in a lap one crash, and tonight, we just struggled all night. We will continue to work hard, and hope for better luck next week”. This coming week, Johnson is looking to get a Small Block put together to run the Alex Friesen Memorial race at Ransomville Speedway on Friday night. On Saturday night, he will race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park and Sunday night he will return to Utica Rome Speedway for twin 20 lap features.
